THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED La Grolla Restaurant Review:
Chef-owner Giovanni Massaglia has long welcomed patrons to his South Philadelphia restaurant. Theres a comfortable wooden bar at the entrance, and the dining room is cozy, with terra cotta floors, and Italian paintings on the walls. The location may be in the south, but the food is definitely northern, with appetizers like sausage over white beans with melted Fontina cheese. Autumnal vegetables appear in the ravioli with wild mushrooms, or the gnocchi made from sweet potatoes. Youll find a number of seafood entrées, but game is Massaglias thing, and, in season, you can enjoy venison medallions in brandy, or his signature---venison wrapped around a filling based on ground roasted rabbit, and more of those wild mushrooms that he loves.
