La Lucha Restaurant Review: It only seemed like a matter of time until a lucha libre-themed taqueria fired up its stove in New York. With colorful Mexican wresting masks decorating the interior, this East Village joint specializes in the tacos of Mexico City. Don’t ask for a burrito, lest you want to get put in a full nelson. And what they do serve is very serviceable: pork tacos come one at a time (on a single corn tortilla) or in threes (as in the beef and chicharon-laden El Santo). The many shareable plates include fried cheese with your choice of meat; the super fresh guacamole, or the crispy tortilla topped with black beans, steak and melted cheese. In general, portions are small and prices can eventually add up, so if you want to eat like a luchador, bring a fat wallet. |
