La Petite Folie

Hyde Park French bistro that appeals to food lovers and University of Chicago students.
La Petite Folie Restaurant Review:
Chef-owner Mary Mastricola has set a high standard for classic French fare at her pleasant bistro in Hyde Park, and sometimes she succeeds. There's a comfortable main dining room with an equally inviting smaller dining area extending beyond an open dividing wall. Prices are quite reasonable, but a good bargain is in store if you dine Tuesday-Sunday between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The three-course prix-fixe is a steal, and features some of the best choices from the regular menu. For starters, don't miss the smooth duck pâté. Entrées like juicy herb-roasted chicken breast with pearl onions; black pepper crusted tuna; and venison medallions with red cabbage, a spiced poached pear and green peppercorn sauce definitely are worth a try. The wine list is not extensive, but it is quite adequate and prices are reasonable. Service is approachable and informed.
