La Quinta Cliffhouse Grill & Bar Restaurant Review: Located atop historic Point Happy, La Quinta Cliffhouse Grill & Bar enjoys an elevated setting overlooking the entire valley. Guests climb stairs carved into a collection of boulders and pass a refreshing waterfall to enter the ranch house-like environs, which jut from a rock outcropping. The indoor space boasts private and curtained booths with a misted covered patio for those enviable desert evenings. The lounge, with its amber-lit long bar and collection of tables, is an ideal destination for an après dinner drink. Under the direction of chef Kelly Walling, the distinctive menu includes fresh seafood, such as oysters on the half shell, along with steak tartare served with a quail egg, shallots, cornichon and toast points. Japanese clam chowder takes this East Coast favorite to the Far East with the addition of water chestnuts and shiitake mushroom. Butternut squash ravioli with white pork Bolognese and arugula are tossed in a port wine reduction, while the marbled 16-ounce rib-eye comes with fingerling potatoes, mushrooms and a rich Cabernet Sauvignon sauce. A selection of soup, salads and appetizers is also available. The wine list, comprising mostly California labels with a few Italian offerings, is extensive. Save room for the velvety Tahitian vanilla crème brûlée.
