La Sosta Enoteca in Manhattan Beach offers the northern Italian cuisine of chef Luca Manderino. Start with the caprese or the beef carpaccio. Pastas are mostly homemade, and the ideal portion to share as a middle course. Light gnocchi pairs with arugula and Gorgonzola, while pappardelle is a delicate bed for earthy, butter-coated porcini mushrooms. Large plates are straightforward and solidly executed. Rack of lamb is baked rather than grilled, and served alongside crispy roasted potatoes and green beans. There is sea bream with vegetables, too. For dessert, don’t skip the profiteroles smothered in melted chocolate. A comprehensive wine list focuses on varietals from Italy, especially lesser-known labels.
