The Larchmont Restaurant Review

: The phrase "Mi casa es su casa" ("My house is your house") is apropos at The Larchmont, a project from restaurateurs Robert Kass (Kass Bah), Spoon Singh (Venice Ale House) and Matthew Cape (Vinolio). Dining in this two-story craftsman-style cottage really does feel like visiting someone's house for dinner. The overhauled space (formerly Larchmont Grill) is clean and simple, with white walls, a white fireplace and white tablecloths. There's a marble-topped bar with five seats plus outdoor dining on the porch. Given its close proximity to Paramount Studios, the restaurant is a popular lunch spot for industry folk. Consulting chef Don Gragg (Chez Panisse, Gramercy Tavern) and executive chef Cody Diegel (Magnolia) collaborate on the seasonal Californian menu. Health-minded diners will go for the kale salad with pistachios, apples, farro, citrus and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Other small plates highlights might include heirloom tomato soup or yellowtail jack crudo with fennel, ginger and chili. Larger plates continue with comforting dishes like Niman Ranch steak frites and strozzapreti pasta with mushrooms, chard, Parmigiano-Reggiano and breadcrumbs. We hope the whole roasted branzino special becomes a menu mainstay. When the time comes to order dessert, skip the flourless chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse in favor of the fruit crumble. The wine list is small, but there's a serious bar program courtesy of Nathan Oliver (Harvard & Stone). Among the offerings is a Bonded Fashioned (Bourbon, bitters, cherry, orange peel).
