| Multitudes declare Las Manitas, owned by two sisters, the best Mexican breakfast in Austin. That's big news in a town full of remarkable Mexican food. Even morning grumps wake up cheery for the comforting and fresh Mexican breakfasts served at this tiny downtown café that has been attracting politicians, musicians and office workers for almost a quarter of a century. Besides the fluffy migas and famed huevos con chorizo, the black beans are soulful, the coffee is strong and the spicy salsa is sinus-clearing. We love the moist vegetarian tamale topped with a rich cheese sauce, washed down with freshly squeezed aguas frescas in any conceivable flavor. Other quick but carefully prepared lunch options include crispy chicken-stuffed flautas sided with smoky refried beans and the poblano chile relleno stuffed with corn and mushrooms. Still hungry?
