LB Steak Restaurant Review

: One of two LB Steak restaurants, sister properties to Roland Passot's Left Bank brasserie chain, this Menlo Park dining room features a wall of windows lined with bistro tables, booths down the center and a lengthy bar that together create a narrow, long footprint. The menu successfully updates classic steakhouse favorites. Begin with a signature fig sidecar featuring house-made fig-infused Cognac and a rim of sugar --- a sweet sip of a cocktail that is gone before you know it. A wedge salad is made California current with local baby iceberg lettuces, yet kept traditional with blue cheese and bacon. Steak tartare mixes chunks of Prime beef with mustard and capers paired with a truffled egg salad. Prime bone-in filet mignon delivers a tender alternative to the much larger porterhouse. Six steak sauces are available, from a classic, tangy version to wasabi crème fraîche. Sides are a must, including the potatoes gratin topped with cheddar, sour cream, bacon and chives, and sugar snap peas with corn. For dessert, pre-order a "chocolate lover," a molten chocolate cake served with Knob Creek butter pecan bourbon ice cream.
