THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Le Coq au Vin Restaurant Review:

Chef Reimund Pitz, who took over the helm after the retirement of longtime chef Louis Perrotte, has added his own flair to the menu focusing on locally sourced and seasonal dishes to complement the traditional country French cuisine. Start with the onion soup topped with gratinée with Gruyère and Emmental cheeses, or something more Southern, perhaps country-style fried green tomatoes topped with crab meat and paired with mustard beurre blanc. Oyster lovers can rejoice in the oyster tasting featuring four fresh regional oysters, four different ways: Rockefeller with spinach and Pernod; Bienville with crab meat; fried with Cajun hollandaise with ham; and raw with shallot Champagne vinaigrette. For an entrée, try the cassoulet anointed with duck crackling, or the duck two ways. Order a side of the lobster macaroni and cheese with ham or some truffle french fries fried in duck fat, too. For dessert, there’s the French lava cake served with vanilla sauce and ice cream or the classic soufflé coming in three varieties: Grand Marnier, chocolate and raspberry. Service is friendly and low-key, a good complement to the food.
