| This family-owned establishment is just the kind of unpretentious neighborhood bistro L.A. has too few of. With its sunny Provençal colors and candlelit tables, Le Petit Café has an informal charm, and a chalkboard menu announces the bill of fare. Starters include traditional items like escargots, a Cognac-infused pâté and a simple but tasty chilled mushroom salad, while entrées involve bistro classics like duck confit, chicken in mustard sauce, a hearty but uninspired beef bourguignon, and a serviceable steak au poivre. We won’t pretend this is among the best French bistro cuisine in L.A.---even Santa Monica---but we applaud the cozy ambience and friendly spirit in which it is presented. |
