| In interminably trendy L.A., it is comforting indeed to find a place like Le Petit Château, which has been serving classic French cuisine for more than 40 years. Located in an old château-style home near a freeway underpass in North Hollywood, Le Petit Château features cozy booths with elegantly appointed tables amidst beamed ceilings, antique furniture and walls lined with collectables in the dining room. The old-school menu---no sushi rolls or foie gras taquitos found here---offers starters like stuffed escargots, pâté and French onion soup, while the lineup of heavily-sauced entrées includes beef Wellington, steak Diane, and an indulgent, almost lethal pairing of sweetbreads and béarnaise. Crème brûlées, English trifle and tarte Tatin are finales on a menu showcasing solid renditions of traditional dishes in the spirit of Escoffier. |
