Making Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food sexy, appealing, and downright addictive, this DC restaurant sets forth sumptuous fare, turning the commonplace hummus into a satiny designer food, and the ubiquitous kebab into a memorable grilled assortment of meats and vegetables. But perhaps the setting has as much to do with the restaurant’s charm as the food does: Sand-colored walls, dimmed lighting, and the pot-shaped tarbouche hat on the walls make an appealing setting for both formal and informal meals. If you are lucky, you may dine here while a Middle Eastern family celebrates with a belly dancer performing for their guests. All that adds a touch of mystery to this decidedly upscale restaurant.
