This La Jolla eatery has set out to save the world one wrap at a time. You can get quick smoothies, salads, soups and wraps that taste good (unlike the food at the majority of “healthy” restaurants, at least in our experience) and damage the earth as little as possible. All ingredients are USDA certified organic. Even the packaging and utensils are made from renewable, sustainable, compostable and biodegradable materials. We like to start off with a hearty soup, such as the brown lentil with carrot and celery, and then move on to one of the flavor-rich wraps; favorites include the turkey-goat cheese (alfalfa sprouts, pepperoncinis and buttermilk dressing), roast beef-cheddar (crimini mushrooms, red onions and baby greens) and the Mediterranean wrap (grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, hummus, feta, kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, spinach and balsamic vinaigrette). When it comes to smoothies, we like the kick that comes with the Sprung Monkey (coffee, whey chocolate, bananas and cinnamon) and the intense sweetness in the Peach Passion (peach nectar, peach slices, bananas). Although many diners will patronize Lean & Green in an effort to be healthy or ecologically correct, nobody will have to sacrifice flavor to do so.
