We'll never forget the first time we took an out-of-town friend to Leeann Chin: Cream cheese won tons? Is that right? The debate over whether this Midwest guilty pleasure is right or wrong has long since been abandoned, as have any qualms we have about Leeann Chin's authenticity. When we want authentic Chinese we go to Rainbow or Shuang Cheng; when we want Chinese-style fast food we got to Leeann Chin. And yes the cream cheese won tons, crispy dumplings puffed with cream cheese and dipped in sweet-and-sour sauce, are delicious, the same way sweet potatoes taste better with a few mini-marshmallows melted on top. For entrées the popular favorite is the lemon chicken. We find it's gelatinous sauce overly sweet and tend to stick to the respectable Peking chicken and beef lo mein. The vegetable fried rice can actually be quite good and we can never complain about the restaurants bright, cheerful interiors and generally helpful staff.
