Left Bank Restaurant Review:

Located in Greenwich Village, this charming restaurant has a warm and rustic setting, marked by dark wood tables, chairs and floors, bay windows and exposed brick. The interior pairs seamlessly with the frequently evolving menu that emphasizes seasonal, globally accented Mediterranean cuisine. A number of selections are evergreen, and these and others are inspired by classic dishes chef Laurence Edelman (Barbuto, The Mermaid Inn) encountered during his travels as well as tried-and-true, home-style family recipes that are as timeless as the landmark building Left Bank occupies. Starters such as organic steak tartare served with cornichons and toast, and a creamy chicken liver and mushroom pâté, recall French bistro standards. Pastas include tender black fusilli tossed with sautéed squid, chickpea, garlic, chili and parsley, while the do-not-miss timpani is a pasta "cake" filled with ground meat, cheeses and vegetables, arriving in slices. Juicy iron-skillet-baked chicken, duo of acorn and carrot mash, and Moscato cabbage is delivered in comforting fashion. Desserts follow the same wholesome mode. Silky maple syrup pie is based on a generations-old Quebecois preparation from the chef's partner. The wine list featuring bright and crisp whites along with fresh and fruit-forward reds from New York, and labels from the Old World, complements the food.
