Legacy Kitchen Restaurant Review:

This former Shoney’s has been completely refashioned, leaving not a visible trace of its former self. The incarnation of the building features an open floor plan. The "refined American comfort food" is exemplified by such dishes as duck confit chili and Gulf fish served with a crawfish cornbread casserole. You will know you're in New Orleans when you taste the spicy fried chicken and waffles with a side of turtle soup. There are also a number of items for vegans, including a distinctive veggie burger melt with Vidalia onions and kale slaw (which is much tastier than it sounds). No real New Orleans meal is complete without a slice of lemon ice box pie, but its chief rival is probably the double chocolate bread pudding with bourbon cream. The wine selection is limited but adequate, especially since all are available by the glass. If there is one drawback to Legacy Kitchen, it may be the prices. Fifteen dollars for a burger and fries? Also located in the Warehouse District, 700 Tchoupitoulas St., 504-613-2350.
