| As Bostonian as the Kennedys, the Sox and the Big Dig, Legal Sea Foods also serves as a model for large-scale seafood restaurants nationwide. Now past its golden anniversary, the chain keeps changing with the times while keeping its core values intact: impeccable freshness and user-friendliness. Oysters on the half-shell, grilled fish, steamed lobster and, of course, clam chowder---such staples are all reliable if not wildly exciting; the specials, meanwhile, are more adventurous, if not always successful. In terms of atmosphere, branches vary slightly, but most hew to a clean, modern, cool-hued aesthetic template; lively crowds of tourists, families and, yes, even foodies indulging guilty pleasures are a given. This is the only branch with an underground wine cellar, however. |
