THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Lievito Pizzeria Restaurant Review:
This high-ceilinged Tuscan-inspired pizzeria with large plate-glass windows overlooks Hudson Street in the West Village. The menu lists a handful of starters---a good grilled polenta with mushrooms and mozzarella; an inventive pancetta-topped artichoke flan---as well as a number of salads and two or three pasta dishes, but people really come here for the pizza. Pies are thin-crusted and come in 20-plus varieties. As is the case most of the time with authentic Italian pizza---simpler is better. The margherita shines with its salty-sweet basil; we also recommend the Tirolese with Gorgonzola, tomato sauce, pancetta and mushrooms. The all-Italian wine list has some affordable bottles, including a good deal on a Rosso di Montalcino, and some selections in the three-digit range, for the big spenders.
