Little Fish Restaurant is one of our 2012

| Things are going swimmingly for chef Mike Stollenwerk, whose clear-eyed proclivity with seafood has grown to include three fish-centric restaurants around town, Fish in Center City, Fathom in Fishtown and a revival and relocating of his intimate Little Fish BYO in Queen Village. Adamant about freshness and keen on keeping it local, Stollenwerk brought chef de cuisine Chadd Jenkins on the scene to manage Little Fish, with tasty results. Like Stollenwerk, Jenkins is a wiz at marrying flavors, swabbing tender Spanish rock octopus with sunny Meyer lemon, and silky black cod with maitakes and sea urchin. His king crab in hot-and-sour broth is a standout: poached to order, delicately sweet and buttery and swimming in a broth redolent with the flavors of a Bangkok market. Always get the pristine oysters, and if you ever doubted the role swine can play in a plate of fish, your doubts will vanish when you tuck into the succulent sturgeon spiked with pork belly and cracklins. Save room for banana brown butter cake for dessert. The $33 Sunday feast is a good deal. |
