| In spite of the intimate space, large street-view windows offer airy scenes of the West Village neighborhood. In the back of Little Owl, the windowed kitchen overlooks the wood-toned dining area. The friendly staff weaves among the small tables and side banquette to serve up the boldly-flavored, Mediterranean-inspired specialties from chef Joey Campanaro (formerly of the Harrison). Entrées such as potato-wrapped scallops with spinach, capers and lemon-leek brown butter, or the plump pork chops with Parmesan butter beans and wild dandelion are impressive, but it is the starters---creamy Maine lobster soup and gravy meatball sliders (think mini meatball sandwiches)---that will have you cleaning your plate. As the evening wears on, locals dig into generously-portioned dishes while sipping from a choice selection of worldly wines and brews. |
