 In Cleveland’s bustling East Fourth Street entertainment district, Michael Symon’s Lola offers curious concoctions that are as tasty as they are buzz-generating. Specializing in contemporary American cuisine, the bistro is intimate without being stuffy and features curved ceilings, rich wood accents and low lighting. While the atmosphere is quietly elegant, the food is anything but. There are a handful of signature Lola dishes (the Lola burger, Lola fries and the beef cheek pierogis, which are drizzled in dark, rich wild mushroom gravy and horseradish crème fraîche) that require sampling. Other can’t-go-wrong options include the crispy veal sweetbreads, beef hanger steak and the wild boar ragù. The dessert menu is equally interesting --- we suggest the ice cream sandwich served with macarons, pistachio ice cream, raspberry-rosewater sauce and pistachios. Beyond the food, Lola has an extensive wine list with more than 400 wines, and approachable "wine managers" to help customers navigate the bottles.
