| The food truck carnival ride of giddy gastronomic fusion just doesn’t stop, and why should it when you can indulge in mobile Japanese Peruvian fare? Eric Nakata, a second generation Japanese American from Gardena, put his Japanese restaurant experience together with a love of Peruvian flavors for a truck that rivals Kogi in the fusion concept department (with a nod to Nobu). The menu is short and savory, topped by the signature dish lomo saltado---marinated tri-tip stir-fried with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, spices and french fries that soak up the sauce nicely. It’s hearty and sizeable for $7, and served up with rice and a thick, spicy green aji sauce that adds another layer of depth. There’s also chaufa, a Peruvian-style fried rice dish, and tallarin saltado, Peruvian spaghetti, both available with beef, chicken or tofu. Grab an Inca Kola and a seat on the curb and you’ll be saying domo arigato (thank you in Japanese). |
