Gordon Ramsay has opened Plane Food in the new Terminal 5 building at London's Heathrow Airport. The restaurant must be doing huge business; open from 5.30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and catering to the thousands of stranded passengers waiting for their flights at the new terminal where British Airways is trying desperately to sort out the chaos brought about through lack of training of BA staff and baggage handling problems. More from Gordon Ramsay: April saw the opening of Maze Grill at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square. It may have a similar name and be sited opposite the original Maze, but this restaurant follows the model of a typical New York grill with a butcher's table at the centre and meat on display. The Soho institution, Quo Vadis, is about to reopen in a very different guise in May. Marco Pierre White's modern Italian touch gives way to a British grill room on the ground floor alongside a new cocktail bar, a members' club on the first floor and private rooms at the top. Good old Boisdale, that gloriously anti-modern Scottish restaurant which features fine food, top whiskies, jazz and cigars, has got around the latest smoking ban in public places by opening its new outdoor Cigar Terrace at Boisdale of Belgravia. Smokers will recline on sofas covered in Macdonald tartan, shelter under an awning and keep warm courtesy of outdoor heaters.

Fish 'n' chips have become upwardly mobile. No longer are they the staple of the Saturday night High Street crowd; now you can indulge in this favourite British combination at the smartest places (including the bar at The Lanesborough, A St. Regis Hotel). Tom Aikens is the latest chef to offer the dish.
