| The downtown Los Arroyos is small, but hard-working Tony Arroyo and Maria Rickard work as if it were gigantic, and pride themselves on serving nothing but the freshest ingredients. The salsa is prepared daily and even the tortillas are made before your eyes. The menu runs to tacos, burritos and enchiladas, along with rice and black beans. Arroyo gets his seafood fresh for the fish tacos. Prices are surprisingly low and the place is friendly. For something closer to fine dining Mexican style, try the Montecito location, which raises the bar on both ambience and quality of food. Desserts here go beyond traditional dishes like homemade flan to embrace the creative side of Mexican cooking. Take, for example, the sweet tamales with walnuts and cinnamon, served with cappuccino ice cream and dark chocolate sauce, or an apple pie taco with vanilla ice cream. |
