Los Danzantes Restaurant Review:

The lovely Coyoacán section of Mexico City, with its colonial-era churches and cobblestoned streets, is not noted for superior restaurants. So Los Danzantes, with its festive decoration and first-rate preparations of both traditional and contemporary Mexican food, has been a welcome relief to the neighborhood since it opened its doors in 1995. With seating in a patio overlooking a lovely plaza, it is a pleasure for the eyes as well as the palate. The restaurant’s most notable dishes include a seafood soup with chipotle chile, ravioli stuffed with huitlacoche (corn fungus, aka the Aztec truffle), fresh tuna with garlic and habanero chile sauce, and arrachera, a marinated Mexican flank steak. A wonderful, if strong, apéritif is Los Danzantes’ mezcal, a cactus liquor manufactured by the restaurant’s owners.
