THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED LoSide Diner Restaurant Review:

Once a bastion for new immigrants and then an outpost for questionable characters, the Lower East Side now boasts chic pubs, restaurants and----most surprising of all---boutique hotels that have ushered in a different era for the neighborhood. Enter the LoSide Diner. Both an homage to Howard Johnson's and a sign of the area's transformation, this late-night eatery with a big menu enhances the burgeoning scene. Settle in to a cozy black booth beneath the exposed brick-and-lime-green walls and spend hours trying to decide from the pancakes (in true diner spirit, breakfast is served all day), sandwiches, burgers and classic American entrées (meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes, turkey pot pie, American chop suey and beef). The service still needs some fine tuning---our request for jalapeños to go with the heaping plate of nachos never materialized, water was never refilled---but fortunately the kitchen is confident enough to make us want to come back again and again.
