THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Lot 7 Restaurant Review:

Why is seven a lucky number? For Lot 7 the answer is easy. Seven is a nod to San Francisco (7 x 7 square miles), the neighborhood (it’s the seventh lot on the block) and to the seven continents that influence the seafood-heavy menu. This all sounds well and good, if only the food were up to par. A pile of tuna tartare arrived salty. Arugula hid a few golden beets (why hide these pretty vegetables?), with walnut and goat cheese fritters as misshapen accents to this confused salad. Manila clams came with toasted baguette for dipping --- too bad there was little sauce in the bottom of the bowl. Pan-fried halibut lay on bland risotto studded with peas. Neither was complemented by a sauce fragrant with citrus and vanilla. The best part of the meal? The steal-of-a-deal, $21 bottle of French Chenin Blanc from a small (but notable) Loire Valley producer. That --- and the view of Valencia Street --- made us feel lucky to be at Lot 7.
