| Brave the drive to this storefront shop decorated like a post-grad apartment in an ugly strip mall. Once you’re safely parked and perched on a cozy banquette with a choice of 25 surprising and delightful wines by the glass, you’re sure to find the trip worthwhile. At Lou, wine is definitely the draw, with choices by the glass like a Carignan from Ferrer Ribière and Côtes de Tablas from Tablas Creek. The fun list changes about every six weeks to reflect the changing seasons. The food is secondary, almost an afterthought. The tapas menu is supposedly composed of wine-friendly foods, but we recommend steering clear of the salad dishes which are doused with taste bud-deadening vinegar. Instead, try the cheese plate, Armandino Batali’s artisan salami plate and something called “pig candy,” (molasses-coated thick-cut bacon). |
