Louro Restaurant Review

: David Santos earned his chops in the kitchen of Per Se before he had the urge to strike out on his own. He then went on to start a supper club in his home in Roosevelt Island, serving whimsical dinners that often had a Portuguese (his family's heritage) bent. All of which was good preparation for this West Village venture. Small bites like his famous seafood fritters and piri piri shrimp prime the palate. Octopus bolognese over tender handmade tagliatelle and strip steak with cornbread purée are the dishes that merit return visits. Desserts are super seasonal, but Santos will always craft a curiously flavored ice cream that you really must try --- think celery or asparagus. Also to note: Every Monday, Santos puts aside the regular menu for a set meal with a theme depending on his inspiration. The wine list is brief and eclectic.
