Luscious Dumplings, Inc. Restaurant Review

: Alan Lam and his wife Grace opened this tiny dumpling and noodle soup house in 2001. There are just eight tables, and décor is limited to framed watercolors and a flat-screen TV. To start, every table receives a complimentary dish of peanuts, celery and firm tofu, tossed in chili oil. The name Luscious Dumplings creates high expectations, and the Lams meet them. Pan-fried pork dumplings sport thin, caramelized skins. Chive, pork, egg and shrimp dumplings are just as fresh, and the flavors nearly as vivid. Not that the dumplings need any help, but soy sauce, vinegar and chile oil are available. Simple noodle soups are also impressive. The stewed beef special features tender chunks of brisket, firm noodles and bok choy. Another exemplary noodle bowl includes shredded pork and Szechuan pickles. A plate of snap-fresh bok choy is topnotch, but doesn’t need the pungent black oyster sauce. The dumpling and noodle soup combo is one of the best meal deals in the county, just $7 for a half-portion of dumplings and a sizeable noodle soup. Peak hours can sometimes mean a long wait, but luckily you can also get your dumplings to go.
