THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mackinnon's Restaurant Review:
The 100-year-old building on a quaint, Victorian-lamped Main Street is a fine setting for this woodsy, brick-walled café. Chef-proprietor Tom Mackinnon's creative dishes reflect the game birds in the stained glass pieces that ornament the room, including what he calls blown-up duck, a preparation that involves forcing air between the skin and flesh of the bird and then oven-roasting it. It's served, as are all main courses, with a beautiful salad as well as vegetable and starch. The Scotch grill---lamb chop, salmon and duck---is another of his favorites, and there usually are four soups to choose from, as well as an appetizer platter replete with seafood far from the usual fried munchies. Seafood also is emphasized, as are the desserts, from elaborate chocolate creations to banana Wellington with caramel-walnut sauce.
