Madera Restaurant Review: Madera is located on the posh, stately grounds of Rosewood Sand Hill. The area, Sand Hill Road in particular, is known for its venture capitalist companies and association with Silicon Valley. Executive chef Peter Rudolph, a local boy who grew up in the East Bay town of Martinez, has crafted his menu around carefully sourced local ingredients. Start off light with Ecopia Farm baby greens with radish, apple, celery and mustard seed dressing, or on a more indulgent note with caviar and oven-roasted beef bone marrow served with toast points. Seasonal vegetables star in main dishes such as potato gnocchi with foraged mushrooms, kabocha, cippolini and cabbage, and Beck’s Farm squab with heirloom carrots, local grapes, cocoa nib granola, caramelized shallot purée and dandelion shoots. Outside the eco-chic dining room with its bustling display kitchen, the Stanford foothills offer a suitably pastoral view --- perfect for lingering over with a dessert. The sweet selections continue the thread of featuring nearby producers. Paul Mekis oversees an impressive wine list that delves deep into California appellations, while also exploring well-curated choices from the rest of the world. Do not miss the restaurant’s meticulously designed and innovative cocktail list. Service can sometimes leave room for improvement.
