The classic menu of Magnolia in Hollywood is happily replicated in its downtown sister location, offering a casually elegant alternative to the corporate chaos of L.A. LIVE dining. Like the original, this spot features subway tile and dark wood, sleek leather banquettes, and a long marble bar that serves up attractive cocktails. A well-chosen rock soundtrack washes over a younger downtown crowd, and an airy sidewalk patio provides a good spot for people-watching. The menu is deceptively simple and unpretentious, but hits California bistro classics right on the mark. A gourmet mac ‘n’ cheese melts smoky and savory, and the tower of tuna tartare and avocado is quite pretty.
