HURRICANE KATRINA: this establishment is currently closed. For a New Orleans Travel Update as well as resources, information and help click here. When push comes to shove, an assessment of the food at Mama Rosa's rests on one's fondness for the brand of tomato sauce that's cooked down to a nearly purple hue. You'll find it on much of the restaurant's menu, from the workaday lasagna to the thick-crusted, hand-tossed pizzas overloaded with cheese and more. The pizza dough is baked on-site, and it does double duty in the humongous sandwiches, filled with a diversity of meats and cheeses. Bare-top tables and spontaneously Italian decorations add up to a typically casual French Quarter ambience.
