THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mandalay Restaurant Review:

The road to this Mandalay for the Ally family was via Oslo, where theirs was the only Burmese restaurant. Now it is the only one in the UK, which is sad because the amiable Allys and their cooking keep their inexpensive but bright little restaurant extremely busy. (Dishes run £1.90 to £6.50.) The cuisine reflects the country's location between India, China and Thailand. So curries, salads, soups and stir-fries jostle in a menu which features bottle gourd, long beans and snow peas. Starters include samosas and spring rolls and the specialty fritters of calabash: shrimp and bean sprouts, chicken and vegetables and 'leafy green'. Balachaung (shrimp relish) adds zing to otherwise generally restrained spicing. Set lunches are a remarkable value at one course for £3.90 and three for £5.90.
