The Mar Vista Restaurant Review

: Executive chef D. Brandon Walker, chef Jill Davie (Josie) and Jorge Rivas are behind neighborhood restaurant The Mar Vista. Walker --- who also serves as the executive chef of Bread and Roses Café, which feeds 750 homeless weekly --- has implemented a 360° philanthropic business model, donating excess food to Bread and Roses Café and affording externship opportunities for students of the culinary training program he helms at St. Joseph's Center. The Mar Vista serves a menu of "progressive Los Angeles cuisine," including dishes like lamb churrasco with curried couscous, crispy kale and mint chimichurri. Bluegrass or jazz bands liven things up on Friday and Saturday nights. Sunday brunch brings egg hot pot, goat cheese chilaquiles and cured salmon loaded potato, along with house sangrias and mimosas.
