There are few things as comforting as sitting down to a simple, tasty meal in a cozy home; that’s just what you get to do at Margaux. With only twenty or so seats in the very residence of the owners---one the chef, the other at the front of the house---you’ll get to know your neighbors while developing an intimate relationship with local, seasonal fare. Duck confit is appropriately crisp outside, tender inside, and served with robustly spiced lentils; a dish of escargots au Pernod has enough anise-perfumed broth for sopping up with the daily crusty bread. Of course there are steak frites and classic sweets: try the crème brûlée du jour or the fruit crisp for two, served in a sizzling crock. You’ll think you’re in some farmhouse on a country road in the Dordogne.
