| Rich or poor, tourist or local, young or old, everybody eventually goes to Maria's of Santa Fe. On a busy Friday or Saturday night, the restaurant is wall-to-wall humanity, everyone waiting for the full-flavored New Mexican food. The carne adovada is rich, spicy and fork-tender. Blue corn chicken enchiladas with red chile are outrageously good and incredibly filling. When we're in the mood for something a bit lighter, we opt for a bowl of Maria's green chile stew, full of tender pieces of pork, potatoes and lots of green chile. Add a hot, freshly made tortilla or an order of sopaipillas and you have a very satisfying meal. While the food at Maria's is wonderful, the margaritas are what have really put this little restaurant on the map. Maria's offers more than a hundred different, delicious varieties, and they're so popular that many people overlook the noteworthy wine list, the pride of wine connoisseur owners Al and Laurie Lucero and a rarity in New Mexican restaurants. |
