Marigold Kitchen Restaurant Review: Marigold Kitchen inhabits an elegant townhouse on leafy 45th Street in University City under the direction of executive chef Keith Krajewski and chef-owners Andrew Kochan and Tim Lanza. The focus is on eclectic American cuisine fashioned with locally sourced ingredients and a dash of snazzy molecular gastronomy. The 13- to 15-course tasting menu ($90) might offer dishes such as Backyard BBQ, which features frozen dots with the flavors of a summer salad, beef tartare standing in for a burger, and sautéed potato gnocchi representing potato salad. The Bahn Mi, an homage to the iconic Vietnamese sandwich, takes the form of a salad of charred cucumber, carrot, pickled daikon and cashews, dressed in jalapeño vinaigrette and Sriracha honey. The Red Snapper Calçotada is a riff on traditional Spanish BBQ that brings in charred baby leeks, hazelnut romesco and orange-pickled celery. Each plate is artfully composed with as much attention paid to details of color and texture as to the marriage of inventive flavors. Petits fours of coconut cream, papaya-chili, orange-saffron and Key lime pie complete the experience. BYO.
