| THIS RESTAURANT IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED El Bucanero’s brand of Mexican seafood is ambitious by local standards---and much of it works. Shrimp for tacos are fried in cornmeal and tucked into a tortilla with tartar sauce, pico de gallo and avocado. Several styles of ceviche, including one with fish, onion and tomato, all finely chopped, are offered. Do not miss the camarones aguachile awash with shrimp marinated in lime juice fragrant with chiles. Fried fish is naturally available, but we recommend the spicy shrimp in a smoky diablo sauce or perhaps a taco el gobernador that pairs sautéed shrimp with a lusty tomato sauce and melted white cheese---again garnished with sliced avocado. El Bucanero has been discovered by foodies, but the clientele remains largely made up of locals. By the way, the cook sometimes appears from the kitchen wearing a chef’s jacket, a real anomaly in such an unpretentious place. |
