The Market Grill Restaurant Review

: About a mile east of Old Town Monrovia, in a shady neighborhood of Craftsman bungalows, is this little gem, attached to a mini-mart. A local couple own the place and the simple menu is executed with unanticipated sophistication. The one-third-pound burgers are old school (lettuce, tomato, cheese and Thousand Island dressing), but the cheddar is from California’s Joseph Farms; the soft buns are baked in-house; and the dressing is house-made, too. We also like the "angry beast," a sandwich of roast beef, grilled onions and green chilies, baby spinach and horseradish mayo on toasted sourdough bread. The fries are first-rate. The menu also offers salads and daily soups (cheeseburger soup, anyone?) as well as New England hot dogs steamed in dark beer and served on homemade New England-style buns. There are but a few tables topped with whimsical salt and pepper shakers, and the walls are lined with some artsy black-and-white photography.
