THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Maui Beach Cafe Restaurant Review:
A crash between neon and tropical is the theme at this lively UCLA-adjacent spot. Professors, students on dates and assorted locals dine under palm trees hung with lava lamps at this upscale chain restaurant. Portions are huge and the food by Hawaiian-born chef Mako Segawa-Gonzalez is surprisingly flavorful. To start, theres the eponymous Maui roll: baked salmon with avocado, cucumber and scallion wrapped in deep fried nori. Although the filling is flavorful, we wish the exterior were crisper and warmer. A number of dishes are available Ohana-style (Hawaiian family-style), such as rice covered with ginger seared ahi or dragon beef. Chocoholics shouldnt miss the dark chocolate lava cake; it erupts at the touch of a fork with hot thick chocolate.
