After a few days in wine country, a margarita and some nachos may be just what you need. Good thing Maya has a pyramid of tequila rising up from the bar area, perfect for a few comparison tastes before ordering. Choosing from the appetizers and small plates section could leave you with no room to order entrées. Sparkling with vibrant flavors, these dishes cover the Yucatan---nachos, empanadas, grilled Tiger prawns, chili rellenos, ceviche and guacamole made to order. A luscious tortilla soup is laden with rich, spit-roasted chicken, diced tomatoes, and a squeeze of lime juice, and is topped off with crispy tortillas and avocado. An interesting Caesar salad features crisp hearts of romaine that have been quickly grilled for an earthier flavor. Arriving with steaming handmade tortillas, entrées like the pork carnitas or the spice-rubbed chicken satisfy not only the growling stomach but also the Mexican soul. A simple spaghetti or the pork chop with a zinfandel sauce and polenta help to assuage a younger audience or those in a large group who are not so eager to tempt their tongue with cilantro chilis and salsa.
