McCormick & Schmick's Restaurant Review

: If success is all about location, location, location, then the San Diego outpost of McCormick & Schmick's hits the jackpot. On the ground floor of the Omni San Diego Hotel, it connects via skybridge to Petco Park (home of the San Diego Padres) and is directly across from the San Diego Convention Center and the historic Gaslamp District. You can order from a bevy of freshly caught fish, flown in daily from around the globe. Craving Maryland crab or Oregon lingcod? No problem. Yearning for Hawaiian tuna or British Columbia salmon? Done. Those who are not seafood lovers will find the pickings slim, but there are several chicken dishes, two steak options and a decent cheeseburger. We like the Dungeness crab and Bay shrimp cakes with red pepper aïoli, the jumbo prawn cocktail and the coconut fried shrimp with papaya-and-mango salsa. Oysters on the half shell are of particular note --- order a sampler and divine the nuances between the Hama Hama, Fanny Bay and Malpeque varieties.
