McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks Restaurant Review: It looks like a steakhouse, “steak” is in the name, and there are steaks on the menu, but McCormick & Schmick’s is really about seafood. The San Jose outpost of this nationwide chain was remodeled in 2013, and the open dining room features lots of dark wood and soft lighting. Appetizers, mostly seafood, include coast-to-coast tuna --- a tower of tuna tartare and avocado paired with seared tuna atop a refreshing cucumber salad; and shrimp kisses, large shrimp and pepper jack cheese wrapped with bacon and served with corn salsa. The selection of seafood and fish is extensive, but one standout is the dish of nicely seared sea scallops atop sautéed spinach and a blue crab and potato hash. Steaks, chicken and pasta round out the menu. Desserts include a rich white chocolate bread pudding finished with vanilla bean ice cream. The wine list is varied and creative.
