Dining room at McCrady's, Charleston, SCMcCrady's, in a sophisticated space just off East Bay, is one of the oldest restaurants in Charleston. The restaurant serves a menu of refined dishes, heavily weighted toward fish and seafood. Except for occasional instances of over-salting, the execution is commendable. The wine bar makes McCrady's accessible for more than just dinner, and offers a cheese plate on Wednesday nights that works perfectly with the wines. The restaurant also holds wine tastings on a regular basis, featuring everything from Pinots to Cognacs.

Memorable Dining Experience!
by rmf921 on 03/25/2009

My dining experience at McCrady's last night was unforgettable! Each component with each dish was so well thought out and designed. Chef Sean Brock uses only the freshest ingredients from his own farm. My server reminded me that the pork i was thoroughly enjoying was one of Chef Brocks own pigs that he had raised. Alot of hard work and love goes into each dish, that is easy tell. Definetly one of if not the best restaurants in Charleston.

Best restaurant in Charleston

We've been eating at McCrady's since our first visit to Charleston seven years ago. This is hands-down our favorite restaurant in the city. We stopped in this summer, not knowing what to expect with Chef Brock. Our tuna-watermelon appetizer was a complex, sweet, perfectly-balanced dish with a subtle heat that was simply divine. Drinks were made with a nice, healthy pour given the price. The bartender explained that the drink menu would be changing over very soon and gave us his recipe for something he created for the upcoming menu. We took home some local vodka and now can relive a bit of our time in SC at home. A toast to the bartender!

We will continue to patronize McCrady's with every visit and highly recommend it to anyone looking for the best food in Charleston.

Worst Dining in My Life
by charlestonian08 on 07/11/2008

I travel the world with my job and have been to many fine restaurants. I will NEVER spend another dime at McCrady’s. I live in Charleston, have been to McCrady’s multiple times and have spent literally thousands of dollars at this restaurant over the last year bringing in friends, family, and important clients. Previously the food was innovative, the atmosphere was exquisite, and the service was perfect. Unfortunately, though, I brought my brother and wife visiting from San Diego in to dine and it was obvious that there has been a substantial change in this establishment’s business practices. Let me describe my experience and let you determine whether it is a place you would like to visit. Last evening there was a limited tasting menu with no wine pairing (which we always order) and every dish was based around tomatoes. My brother, a very respecting 3-time war veteran I’ll add, is allergic to tomatoes. We asked if we could have an alternate possibility. We were told by our very good server, “no”. Based on the limited menu, we decided we would depart. I explained our decision to our server, he understood. We left him a $10 tip for pouring us water and we were met at the door by the beverage director.

He told us that if we didn’t like the menu prepared for us, then we should leave (which we were obviously doing). We made advanced reservations, were appropriately dressed, very courteous, and not a bunch of “yahoos”. I was shocked and embarrassed that my family that had traveled so far to be with us was treated so poorly, especially in our hometown which is known for its courtesy and good manners.
