McCrady's, Charleston, SC

McCrady's Restaurant Review

: Located in a sophisticated space just off East Bay, McCrady’s is one of Charleston’s oldest restaurants. Chef Sean Brock’s menu is low country to the core. Brock even grows his own benne seeds, that’s how serious he is about authenticity. Emphasizing local, artisanal and sustainable food, his dishes vary from day to day depending on availability. Expect such ideas as barbecued veal sweetbreads with turnips and stout-vinegar glaze or local heritage chicken with carrots, onions, Anson Mills oats and black truffles. Southern roots influence desserts such as warm walnut cake with North Carolina apples, caramel and vanilla. The multi-course chef tasting menu ($95) reveals what Brock is developing at any given moment. The cheese plate presents unusual regional and international cheeses. The wine list suggests pairings for every dish on the à la carte menu.

After reading some of the other reviews, we were expecting great food, but questionable service. We were in for a great surprise. From the greeting at the door, to the service at the bar, to the meal...our service was wonderful. The waiters could not have done anything more for us than they did. It has now become my favorite restaurant in Charleston.
Memorable Dining Experience!

My dining experience at McCrady's last night was unforgettable! Each component with each dish was so well thought out and designed. Chef Sean Brock uses only the freshest ingredients from his own farm. My server reminded me that the pork i was thoroughly enjoying was one of Chef Brocks own pigs that he had raised. Alot of hard work and love goes into each dish, that is easy tell. Definetly one of if not the best restaurants in Charleston.
Best restaurant in Charleston

We've been eating at McCrady's since our first visit to Charleston seven years ago. This is hands-down our favorite restaurant in the city. We stopped in this summer, not knowing what to expect with Chef Brock. Our tuna-watermelon appetizer was a complex, sweet, perfectly-balanced dish with a subtle heat that was simply divine. Drinks were made with a nice, healthy pour given the price. The bartender explained that the drink menu would be changing over very soon and gave us his recipe for something he created for the upcoming menu. We took home some local vodka and now can relive a bit of our time in SC at home. A toast to the bartender!

We will continue to patronize McCrady's with every visit and highly recommend it to anyone looking for the best food in Charleston.
