THE MED, La Jolla, CA

THE MED Restaurant Review

: La Valencia Hotel, the regal "Pink Lady," proposes several dining experiences. Guests can enjoy libations and nibbles in La Sala or bistro fare in Café La Rue. THE MED is airy and bright with three distinct dining areas: the street-facing patio, main dining room with large windows showcasing views of the Pacific, and the adjacent terrace also overlooking the ocean. Chef James Montejano oversees La V after stints at The Trident in Sausalito and Le Papagayo in Leucadia. His menus offer New American cuisine, from salmon hash in the morning, to an Angus burger or Baja fish tacos for lunch, and miso Chilean sea bass with laughing bird shrimp dumplings, vegetables and dashi consommé at night. A staple at both lunch and dinner, the signature crab cakes are accompanied by heirloom cherry tomatoes, fennel, arugula and caper aïoli. Diners may also encounter specials like cream of mushroom soup, quiche and swordfish. Brunch on the patio is a La Jolla favorite with Blood Marys and omelets plump with blue crab and goat cheese. Local craft brews are featured along with classic and original cocktails. The sophisticated wine list strives to provide interesting selections for enthusiasts. THE MED also hosts a wine dinner series, so keep an eye out for those events.
