Mediterranean Exploration Company Restaurant Review:

Mediterranean Exploration Company (M.E.C.) is part of John Gorham’s stable of creative and popular eateries. Tables and the open kitchen/bar area typically fill up by 6 p.m., giving the restaurant the buzz of convivial conversation that’s more energizing than overwhelming. Gorham turns his attention to eastern Mediterranean fare, that of Israel and its environs. His typical modus operandi applies: plates are intended for sharing and arrive willy-nilly; even the "small plates" are generous; flavors are robust. The lengthy menu offers much from which to choose, but you can't go wrong with the phyllo chard hand pie; roasted asparagus with preserved lemon and harissa; grilled octopus salad; fried anchovies or calamari; radicchio salad with cherries and yogurt dressing; or the fried chicken with honey. Meat lovers will enjoy grilled items such as spiced lamb chops, hanger steak or chicken kebabs accented with olive salt. Imaginative cocktails continue the theme with the "Gold Dinar" blending bourbon, lemon, honey and Aleppo pepper. Or opt for a selection from the eclectic wine list. We recommend the chocolate baklava for dessert. Service is friendly.
