Memphis Cafe Restaurant Review:

This tiny bastion of Southern-style cooking is located next to The Lab, an alternative mall. There’s something quite odd about the décor, so don’t be surprised by the mood lighting, the rather beat-up tables and chairs, and the ramshackle outdoor patio tucked in the back. The hipster set that shops next door is typically drawn to co-founder/chef Diego Velasco's mix of Southern treats, which could include daily brunch items like a crawfish étouffee omelet, lunch offerings such as a shrimp po' boy, or dinner fare of cornmeal-fried catfish. Seasonal dishes such as head-on prawns with queso fresco and soy lime-glazed striped bass served with scallion ginger pancakes carry international flair. Desserts are appropriately rich, and there is always Dixie beer for washing it all down. On the weekends, this place becomes a busy after-hours hangout known for DJs playing some of the county's best hip-hop, soul, funk and even '80s-style Brit pop.
