Allyn's Restaurant Review:

For 20 years, "eclectic" had been the best way to describe Allyn's. It was a little bit Cajun and a little bit rock 'n’ roll. It was a touch Tex-Mex and even had a small wine shop. It was a place to have a good time --- a happy hour destination and the source of oddball offerings such as blackened alligator. But, it reinvented itself as something more upscale, more Cajun and less Mexican. While Allyn's kept items like its black bean quesadilla roll on the menu, the neighborhood restaurant and pub added crowd-pleasers, namely a dozen craft beers on tap (whereas before there had been only bottles) and more than 175 wines by the bottle. All of the food is house-made, from the creamy jalapeño salad dressing to the house specialty of chicken and sausage jambalaya. There aren't many places in Cincinnati where you can go for gator or even a crawfish boil, but Allyn's is one of them. It's a good place for live music or to enjoy patio weather, with flat-screen TVs throughout for sports fans and a Mardi Gras atmosphere for Cajun-loving customers. Vegan offerings range from the vegan sausage chili dog to vegan jambalaya. The shop up front stocks an array of wines and beers and a line of hot sauces to keep things spicy.
